The young Victoria is a film based in the early Victorians, i have chosen the film due to the various different hair styles used, they used a great selection of early Victorian hairstyle this is why i like this film as we have covered nearly every hair style in it.

here are a few example of the hair styles they used.

Evaluation

Overall I feel this course as gone well, I really enjoyed learning how to create burns, cuts, bruises, old age, creeping of the skin, scaring, illness and sweats, dark eyes and lips as I've never done these before, I also enjoyed learning how to create Victorian hairstyles and how to make the hair look old, I felt with the Great expectations project, it gave us the opportunity to be able to do continuity and learn what you would need to do, with this project I thought Estella went well.
With the Claudia and Quinton project I really enjoyed how we got to choose out of a variety of films or TV series to base them on, I liked being able to create my looks in my own time, the only thing I would choose to do differently is outfits again.

I thought the timing for the course was a bit stressful but managed to keep on top of things, I think it'll be more beneficial for my to carry out a tick list of things to do in my second year.

with the timed assessment i felt it went really well, i had to adapt to the second continuity as my model had her hair cut so it made my hair design look a lot shorter and slightly more thicker on the sides, over all i felt confident in creating my design.

Explain your understanding of continuity and its importance in TV industry

Explain your understanding of continuity and its importance in TV industry

Continuity is were you have to recreate you look more than once and they all have to look the same, it is important for the TV industry because they have to do so many scenes in a matter of months or a year so this is very important the look stays the same or it will look odd and the public will be able to see a difference.

To get the look to stay the same you would need to have lots of notes explaining what make-up to use, what hair products to use, materials etc it is important to have face charts to refer to and pictures of previous attempts.

How does Dickens give the uncanny a unique twist within the novel in term of caricaturisation?

How does Dickens give the uncanny a unique twist within the novel in term of caricaturisation?

Dickens gave the uncanny a unique twist within the novel term of the caricaturisation by making Miss Havishum bringing up a girl to believe she wants to punish men and treat them like their nothing, also for pip to have a encounter with a prison escapee hiding in the over grown trenches grabbing hold off pip blackmailing him and threatening him.

What are specific elements of the uncanny?

What are specific elements of the uncanny?

The specific elements of the uncanny are were Miss Havishum had left the house as it was on the day she was supposed to be married, as this wouldn't normally happen in today's society.

How is the grotesque depicted in Great Expectations?

How is the grotesque depicted in Great Expectations?

The grotesque is depicted in great expectation because everything in Miss Havishum's house had been left the same way for year and never touched our cleaned i.e the table with wedding decorations, food and the wedding cake, the would have rotted and had a foul smell the table was covered with dust and cob webs.

How is the Gothic depicted in Great expectations?

I feel the Gothic that is depicted in Great expectation is the way Miss Havashum is dressed and the house she lives in, as the year have gone by her look deteriorate and her clothing starts to get dirty and dark, with the house she hasn't done anything with it since she was left before the wedding, the outside gardens are all overgrown and looks rather spooky, so everything has stayed the same and collected dust, comb webs and has become very outdated.

Find an example of a film or TV series that has late Victorian hair style, explain why you have chosen this film or TV series and what you like about the hair styles.

I have chosen to do Cinderella as an example of a film that has late Victorian hairstyles in, i have chosen Cinderella because it shows various different styles and in the recent filming they have used Victorian hairstyles instead of  the classic hair up.
The things i like about the hairstyles are when they enter the ball you can see all the different styles and how detailed they are, i also like how the hairstyles fit the characteristics of each character, i.e the step sisters have defined curls that are pinned up, all the hair styles show clear coverage of Victorian hair styles.

Death mask

Death Mask

A death mask is were you would use wax or plaster cast to make a mask out of the dead's face, this would be used as a memento or a portrait, some death mask would need to be painted due to distortion of the the persons face for decay and deceased.
These were very popular with the ancient Egyptians.

This is my interpretation of a death mask on myself, the product i used to create this look was a black eye shadow and a eye shadow brush.

What is high definition broadcasting and how does it affect make-up and hair artists

What is high definition broadcasting and how does it affect make-up and hair artists

High definition is a resolution that is higher or greater than standard definition, high definition TV provides five times the amount of pixels than standard definition.

High definition can be transmitted in different formats:

  • 1080 p: 1920 x 1080 p: 2,073,600 pixels (~2.07 mega pixels) per frame.
  • 1080 i: 1920 x 1080 i: 1,036,800 pixels (~1.04 mega pixels) per field or 2,073,600 pixels (~2.07 mega pixels) per frame
  • A non standard CEA resolution exists in some countries such as 1440 x 1080 i: 777,600 pixels(~0.78 mega pixels) per field or 1,555,200 pixels (~1.56 mega pixels) per frame.
  • 720 p: 1280 x 720 p: 921,600 pixels (~0.92 mega pixels) per frame.

High definition affects make-up and hair artists because when you see people on TV in standard definition the face is blurred were as with High definition the appearance of the skin is so clear you can see the pores and wrinkles on the face.

Claudia

Claudia

Products and materials:
  • Kryolan foundation palette
  • Illamasqua eye shadow palette
  • Illamasqua skin base
  • Illamasqua primer
  • Eye brow pencil
  • Gel eye liner
  • Mac lip mix (red, black, matte)
  • Kryolan glamour glow palette
  • make-up brushes
  • Hair curlers
  • Curby grips
  • Paddle brush
  • Pintail comb

I chose Claudia as one of my two characters, she is a bubbly outgoing stubborn girl that likes to look perfect but will never wear mascara, she has an boyfriend called Quinton that has passed away, she lived on her own in a small dark apartment were she lived, she would often visit a big mansion where her husband was murdered.
To get this look i used a primer all over the face and i used the foundation palette and skin base to make the foundation look lighter and applied to the face, i then used the glamour glow palette to contour the face i.e cheeks and nose, using the eye-shadow palette i used a brown and applied to the crease of the eye and blended and used a gel eye liner to do a eye-liner flick, using an eye brow pencil i defined the brows and used mac lip mix for the lips, i used a matte red all over the lips with a black to give a fading look.
With the hair i used curling irons to curl all the hair, once the hair is all curled i scrunched the hair up on each side and pinned it down so it still looked curly and did the same with the back.

Quinton

Products and materials:
  • Kryolan glamour glow palette.
  • Kryolan foundation palette.
  • Illamasqua loose powder.
  • Make-up brushes.
  • Kryolan camouflage palette.
  • Kryolan supracolor.
  • fake blood.
  • Papermache.

I chose to do Quinton as one of my characters as i characterised my face chart from america horror, he is based on the husband in the haunted house that done private abortions.
Quinton is the dead husband of Claudia, he is stuck within the house because Claudia became disgusted with what she found him doing with all the babys body parts, even managing to create a new son for her, she didnt agree with what he was intending to do so she hit him in the back of the head with a candle stick and killed him.

To get the look i used a pale foundation all over the face and head as my model didn't have hair i needed to even the skin tone out, i then used the kryolan camouflage palette to give a dull dead effect  and blotted with loose powder.

with the bashed head i used a paper mache technique, covered with kryolan supracolor palette reds and black, i then used fake blood to fill the hole so it looked as if it was fresh and bloody.
