High definition is a resolution that is higher or greater than standard definition, high definition TV provides five times the amount of pixels than standard definition.
High definition can be transmitted in different formats:
- 1080 p: 1920 x 1080 p: 2,073,600 pixels (~2.07 mega pixels) per frame.
- 1080 i: 1920 x 1080 i: 1,036,800 pixels (~1.04 mega pixels) per field or 2,073,600 pixels (~2.07 mega pixels) per frame
- A non standard CEA resolution exists in some countries such as 1440 x 1080 i: 777,600 pixels(~0.78 mega pixels) per field or 1,555,200 pixels (~1.56 mega pixels) per frame.
- 720 p: 1280 x 720 p: 921,600 pixels (~0.92 mega pixels) per frame.
High definition affects make-up and hair artists because when you see people on TV in standard definition the face is blurred were as with High definition the appearance of the skin is so clear you can see the pores and wrinkles on the face.
